Emily Hay Emily Hay is a flutist, vocalist and pianist who extends the traditional roles and capabilities of her instruments by incorporating the complexity of contemporary classical technique with the spontaneity and experimentation of free improvisation. The result is startling interpretations of sound and intense ensemble interaction. Her explorations on the flute and alto flute embody unusual tone colors and soaring rhythmic structures, augmented by electronically generated effects and...

This music did not really begin as an hommage to Eliane Radigue, but I did come to think of it in relation to her work with slowly changing timbres, which I love, and I ended up calling it by her name. My recordings are drone textures made up of many oscillators continuously detuned according to changing ambient light levels. A single photocell placed outside brings into play the movement of isolated clouds passing across a clear blue sky. Eliane was created using the SuperCollider programming...

Japanese cyberpunk writer found Tooth Kink in MySpace and offered to make a joint album. So it's here – dark, provocative and brooding stuff, comprising pre-industrial, noise-hop and hi-infidelity. Kenji Siratori: a Japanese cyberpunk writer who is currently bombarding the internet with wave upon wave of highly experimental, uncompromising, progressive, intense prose. His is a writing style that not only breaks with tradition, it severs all cords, and can only really be compared to the kind...

aka "Operazione Paura" in its English dubbed version. A very haunting and influential horror classic from the 1960s: Federico Fellini in "Histoires extrarodinaires", David Lynch in the "Twin Peaks" series and Guillermo del Toro in "The Devil's Backbone" ... Carlo Rustichelli's eery music score was overused in later Italian productions. Check out the US movie trailer here: http://www.archive.org/details/KillBabyKill-Trailer and another one here:...

Sergei Eisenstein shot ¡Que viva México! in Mexico in 1931 at the height of the Great Depression. The courageous financiers of this project were the author Upton Sinclair, his wife Mary Craig and a small group of their friends. They had great difficulties in keeping the production going; the economic crisis forced Sinclair to call a halt to it in early 1932. Shooting was stopped with most of the work completed; only one episode could not be filmed. At the same time Josef Stalin insisted on...

This short computer animation from 1988 contains a collection of dream sequences created using 3D particle systems techniques. Behavior rules are applied to thousands of individual particles to model complex phenomena such as an explosion, a snowstorm, a tumultuous head, and a waterfall. A Connection Machine CM-2 computer was used to perform physical simulations on thousands of particles simultaneously, one processor for each particle.

DIISSC Orchestra: Soon after its founding in 2008, the DIISSC Orchestra has been invited to play at all major Lithuanian contemporary music festivals. The Orchestra's unique architecture -- five composers -- enables it to to play their own compositions and that of world-reknowned composers, produce live videos, present compositions involving a variety of disc players, stopwatches, special graphic scores, and low-tech devices. No laptop supremacy, no meaningful staring at a monitor. Performers...

Performance of this ensemble could be called concert as exhibition, or a retrospect of graphic musical notation extended with the graphical materials of non-musical origin, that are read as...

With the viscerality of the best pre-Velvet pump-organ dronings (or is it rather the sound of the ru-be, the reed instrument of the south-east asian Ma-peoples), energized with the wholly contemporary dynamics of a dj-set and sparkling with the post-neurotic kinetics of glitch (very much like a good champagne), no simple feelings will completely convey the affect that Arturas Bumsteinas' latest piece brings about (and i haven't even mentioned the title yet, casting it's elliptic semiotic shadow...

Arturas Bumsteinas is a digital media artist from Vilnius, Lithuania. He has released several works in MP3 and CDR format, and performs frequently in various countries of Europe. Placido explores a number of approaches to digital music: at times abstract, other times the source material floats to the surface, only to shatter into a million fragments. "at the same time when i was editing these tracks Laura was sitting by the warm stove and doing some needlecraft. i had no idea what kind of...
